Adopt a Classroom is our holiday Initiative that spreads love and joy to every student, teacher, & staff member in 8 of charleston’s high-poverty schools.

Help us reach our end-of-year giving goal by making a financial gift!

An intentional way to give back this holiday season

Become a Gift-Giving sponsor

We are blown away by the support we have received since launching Adopt a Classroom just a few weeks ago! We are thrilled to say that ALL of our classrooms have been adopted! HOWEVER, that does not mean that we don't have a place for you to be intentional with us this Holiday season through Adopt a Classroom!

This year, we are adopting EVERY STUDENT, TEACHER, AND STAFF MEMBER in all 8 Title schools and we need YOUR help to do it! Here’s how you can be intentional with us this Holiday season:

  • Become a Staff Gift-Giving Sponsor - our schools are made up of incredible individuals that support teachers, provide additional instruction, and ensure the school functions to the best of its ability and we want to celebrate and love on them! You’ll get a list of 20-25 (equivalent to a classroom) teachers & staff support to provide a $10-$15 gift-card or gift for! You’ll bring them to drop-off day, attend Wrapping Night, and then hand-deliver their gifts to them on Delivery Day!

wrapping Night : December 7 @ 6:30 pm

Our annual Wrapping Night is a unique event that rallies over 500 local individuals together in the College of Charleston TD Arena to wrap over 2,500 toys. We call it organized chaos but believe us, it's a night you don't want to miss! If you are a classroom sponsor and have collected gifts with your friends, family, or coworkers- this is a great opportunity to build community and wrap your toys together!

If you weren't able to adopt a classroom this year, don't let that stop you- come hang out with us and wrap gifts for sponsors who may not be able to make it!

Interested in having your business become a Wrapping Night Sponsor? View our Sponsorship Packet Here.

Delivery Day

If you adopted a classroom, this is where you get to meet the faces and see the smiles behind the gifts you intentionally bought! We know you have them in mind when collecting and wrapping their gifts and we are thrilled that every sponsor has the opportunity to meet the students and teachers they are loving on this Holiday season!

December 13: Burns & Mary- Ford Elementary

December 14: Mitchell & Sanders-Clyde Elementary

December 18: Cainhoy & St. Jame Santee Elementary

December 19: Charleston Progressive Academy & North Charleston Elementary

Everyone is welcome- not just those who adopted classrooms!

Become an adopt a classroom donor

There are so many ways for you to get involved with Adopt a Classroom this year! You can support Adopt a Classroom and our mission at Charleston Hope by becoming a financial donor, purchasing supplies for our classroom Holiday Parties or our Amazon Wishlist, or purchasing teacher/staff gift-cards to ensure everyone in our 8 schools is celebrated and thanked this Holiday season!

Thank you Corporate Sponsors!

Letter to Charleston Hope

The story

In her senior year of high school, Emily’s eyes were opened to the hardships of the students in her sister’s Title One  classroom. At her parent’s kitchen table, a group of teenagers developed a plan to bring joy and hope during the holidays to 40 low-income students. This holiday initiative became Charleston Hope’s “Adopt a Classroom”. By 2012, entire schools were being adopted and the vision to intentionally provide every Title 1 student with a brand new toy during the Holiday season was born.

Emily continued to expand this program while at the College of Charleston and then replicated the program in Akron, Ohio and Clemson, South Carolina with other college students. In 2017, Adopt a Classroom served a total of 13 Title 1 schools and over 5,000 students. Our program is not a toy drive but a unique opportunity for classroom sponsors to intentionally pick out gifts for their assigned classroom(s), attend Wrapping Night with 500 other community members, and have the chance to personally deliver the gifts to their classroom.
